Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Why did you make FurrySmut?

A: I've been frustrated ever since I got into the fandom. While there are some upcoming sites dedicated to erotic pictures, such as PureYiff.com, there have been a string of unsuccessful story archives. Miavar's did not concentrate on erotic stories, and hosted none locally, as well as the fact that most of the links were broken.. Furry Pleasures was poorly managed, frequently down, and rarely updated. Gotfox.com used a clunky cgi script and despite the hand written reviews, had little to offer in the way of content. Hopefully now learning from others' mistakes, FurrySmut will be able to serve where every other story archive had their failings.

Q: Will FurrySmut ever charge for its services?

A: FurrySmut will remain free as long as the server space and bandwidth remain that way. Currently Techwolf is kind enough to take on the bandwidth and space for the site.

Q: Does anyone generate a profit from FurrySmut?

A: Nope! Not unless people are kind enough to donate to help pay back the costs for the program itself. Though I don't expect contributions from the community in the fiscal department, should I ever manage to make back the money spent on the database then avenues for donation will most likely be taken down, or redirected to a community service organization like Wolf Park.

Q: Who can be hosted on FurrySmut?

A: Any writer who has a story, or series, with the majority of it being furry content and having at least some sexual content will be permitted. Stories not relating to furry, and sexual excursions, will not be permitted. The only exception to this rule is authors with an already well established presence in the realm of erotic writing who wish to have one or two nonsexual pieces hosted in addition to the erotic ones, OR if an author wishes to submit a series in its entirety wherein some parts of the series go without any eroticism, but the majority of the series does. We must also reserve all rights to be the final word on submitted pieces, and that a story may be denied hosting for any reason.

Q: Are authors stories posted without permission?

A: We always try to secure permission, and there are a few that have said no. Personally I've sent over one hunderd e-mails out and only gotten a minimal amount of responses. Most of the authors who did not respond had e-mail addresses that simply ceased to function, or had been abandoned. Should any author, at any time, decide that they wish their work to be private, it will be taken down ASAP. We look to maintain an air of respectability and professionalism here, as well as catering to the author's and reader's needs alike. Due to extensive discussion, no works will be hosted without first and prior consent by the author themselves, while this may limit the size of the archive since author contact information is hard to come by, it will ensure that no one's toes are stepped on.

Ratings

Assigning the various stories keywords has been a difficult task to say the least. I have attempted to follow a few basic guidelines in pairing stories to keywords.

• I have accumulated keywords that give a general sense of the kink, but are not so specific that I have to knit-pick for details. One example of this would be that instead of making a keyword for fellatio and then a different one for cunnilingus there is simply an "oral" keyword, which covers both.
• Keywords tend to interact in a very specific, but logical, fashion. For example, there is no Male/hermaphrodite or Female/hermaphrodite keyword, instead a story with a male character having sexual intercourse with a hermaphrodite's cunny would be put down as M/F, hermaphrodite. A hermaphrodite character having penetrating a female character's cunny would show up as the same set of keywords. This way a reader can get a sense of the type of sex involved, without a reviewer (me!) having to spend three or four times more amount of time reviewing one story for the oh so gritty details.
• Stories which have content that may be related to a keyword such as transformation generally only get that rating if it is important to the sexuality of the story and/or the plot, simply changing from a wolf to a human at the end of a story to "wrap things up" does not warrant a transformation keyword.
• Related to the above point, I tend to be conservative on giving out keywords unless the story really does have the content. It is the prerogative of this site that a search yielding the "anal" or "oral" results really have that content and not just a light glossing over of it.
• There will never be a user based rating system off of FurrySmut. I believe that talent ratings in a public forum such as this help to dispose (or create enough of an appearance of disposing) the less talented, or less experienced artists, to less exposure and therefore less growth of their skills.

Giving

There are a couple of ways to help out.

• Spread the word about FurrySmut. Link to it from your website, show your friends, tell people you know. I'm always willing to host a link exchange with someone who has a related website, or one with content that falls under a category on the link page.
• Donate your time. We can always use people that are willing to take time to find stories for us to post. If you are going to search for stories to be hosted here, please please make sure that you make all efforts to at least contact the author and get their permission. Also, we need people to do thorough reviews of stories to help speed up the process that stories can be posted to the database.
• Donate your cash. Money is always appreciated. Getting programmers to write the program for FurrySmut was a considerable expense, but a welcome expense to serve the furry community. If you wish to donate, contact me via e-mail and we can set something up. I can take personal checks, paypal, cashier's, or even just monies. Every bit helps.
• E-mail the authors. There is nothing more exciting to an author than getting mail about a story they wrote. Tell them where you read it at, ask them to submit more work to FurrySmut, ask them to write more work as well.
• Remember, FurrySmut will only be as good as its readers and authors want it to be.

3. Last but not least, take some time typing out your e-mail into complete sentences and with organized paragraphs. The more concise you are, the easier it is for me to respond quickly, and in volume. The more effort you put forth in your e-mail, the more priority it will receive.
